Vivid Sydney (Festival of lights) wanted to avoid the pedestrian congestion of 2.7 million people. We needed to create an attraction that would draw and hold people's attention elsewhere for at least 45 minutes.
We transformed Martin Place into an 8-bit wonderland, fusing a fledgling burger trend with a nostalgic aesthetic, creating an installation where you could eat, drink, and dance surrounded by retro-inspired light activations. We also built the world's largest CRTV, where you could play a giant game of human PONG.
Teaming up with Sydney's premier burger houses, we created a nostalgic burger battle in the style of an 8-bit wonderland. Complete with arcade games, 8-bit burgers, floating clouds, keys, and trees. Oh, and we also built the world's largest CRTV where you could play a revamped version of the 1970's game of PONG, only giant and with humans as the paddles.
By fusing food, fun, and sitting, we created a (yummy) recipe for success.
To help speak beyond the event, we created an Instagram hashtag scraper, where you could vote for your favourite burger. We sold 25,000 burgers, had 2,200 pong battles, and had 150k+ visitors.
